UniSA Health Clinics offer a variety of services designed to support those with Parkinson’s, and movement related disorders, including weekly group classes at our City West Clinic run by our Physiotherapy students, and a Nurse-led clinic at our Elizabeth Clinic.
Our free Parkinson’s Nurse Clinic runs once a month at Elizabeth led by Sue Sharrad, our experienced Parkinson’s Nurse. Sue is passionate about helping people with Parkinson’s, improving access to care, and supporting patients with expert and compassionate guidance.
Sue has also over 10 years’ experience working in an academic setting being involved in the education of both undergraduate and post graduate students. She has published in peer reviewed journals, supervised Masters students to completion and is the co-supervisor of two PhD students.
In the clinic, she provides support and education to people living with Parkinson’s disease and their caregivers. She can undertake initial nursing assessment and ongoing monitoring of the condition.
Additionally, she can help people with Parkinson’s understand and manage their prescribed medication, so that the treatment is optimised and fewer adverse effects are experienced.
In collaboration with other members of the person’s healthcare team, she will support the nursing management of motor and non-motor aspects of Parkinson’s disease.
Sue can advocate for and refer to other healthcare services available in the UniSA Health clinics to improve wellbeing and quality of life for the person with Parkinson’s disease and their caregivers.
Consultations can be conducted face to face, virtually via telehealth or during home visits. Individuals with Parkinson’s disease and their caregivers in regional areas are encouraged to arrange telehealth consultations
