Lauren Gesti is a social worker with a background in corrections, children, and family services, and recently worked in employment services. Her expertise lies in supporting individuals through transitional phases, whilst managing any mental health or personal issues they are experiencing. Lauren achieves this by using social work theory and experience as a counsellor.

In addition to her impactful work in the field, Lauren contributes to the academic community as a sessional tutor at the University of South Australia (UniSA) in the Social Work department. Her passion for teaching reflects her commitment to nurturing the next generation of social workers.

Lauren’s compassionate and client-centered approach, coupled with her diverse experiences, makes her a valued asset in promoting well-being and positive change.

Mandy George

Mandy George is a registered clinical psychologist and one of the clinical leads/educators at the clinic. She brings over 13 years of clinical experience in providing psychological therapy and assessments across different settings such as non-profit organisations, child and adolescent mental health and private practice. Being a psychology board-approved supervisor, Mandy also supervises provisional psychologists who provide student-led services at the clinic. Mandy has a particular passion for working with children and their families as she recognises the importance of early intervention and the power of supporting the people and systems surrounding the child. Her practice is grounded in evidence-based interventions and informed by latest research in developmental psychology and attachment theory. Mandy uses playfulness and fun activities in a safe therapeutic space to support her younger clients with improving their mental health and building emotional resilience and social skills. She also works closely with parents and caregivers while providing them with support and advice regarding behaviour concerns and attachment difficulties. Mandy draws upon her extensive experience and understanding of human behaviour and psychology as she utilises evidence-based interventions such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Acceptance Commitment Therapy and mindfulness approaches to assist her clients with managing issues such as depression, anxiety, stress, grief and loss.

Dr Barbour is an experienced Dietitian with many years of both hospital and private practice dietetic experience, which has provided her with a broad scope of practice and seen her develop a wide range of nutritional interests, including women’s health, sports nutrition, low FODMAPs diet and a weight neutral approach to a healthy lifestyle. Dr Barbour also has lectured in nutrition to students at UniSA and Flinders university for 10 years and has developed a passion for working with students and University staff.

Kultar graduated his Masters in Occupational Therapy from the University of South Australia in 2014, after completing a Bachelor of Laws and Legal Practice at Flinders University.

Having initially pursued a career in the legal profession, Kultar’s work as an Education Support Officer working with young children with Autism Spectrum Disorder led him on the path of OT.

Kultar has worked with families, children and youth as an Occupational Therapist for over 5 years.  He is dedicated to supporting clients in accessing their interests, passions and achieving their full potential. Kultar has also been involved in mentoring new OT graduates, supervising Occupational Therapy students in their clinical placements and in providing professional development to other professions (teachers, educators & teaching assistants).

In addition to his career in OT, Kultar has worked in the Arts sector as a musician and community workshop facilitator and mentor for the last decade, having provided services to organisations such as Carclew Youth Arts, City of Marion, City of Onkaparinga, Children of Parents with Mental Illness and the Education sector.

Kultar enjoys spending quality time with his wife and daughter at the beach and soaking up the little things that make life magical!

Michael Sharp

Michael Sharp is a caring and dedicated paediatric Occupational Therapist with a passion for supporting young people and their families. He graduated from the University of South Australia in 2013 as the Cecilie Bearup Prize recipient and brings a wealth of experience from working across private sectors, public sectors and as a Clinical Educator at the University of South Australia. He has also provided outreach to rural communities with the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

Michael loves working with young people and seeing lifelong change. Building relationships and understanding the interests and needs of the child is central to his work. He has experience in supporting young people with their fine/gross motor skills, social skills, play skills, daily living skills, managing emotions, sensory processing and their mental health. Working alongside families/carers and involving them in how they can support their child is a key part of his work. He has supported children from a diverse range of presentations including Autism Spectrum Disorder, children who have experienced trauma, Sensory Processing Disorder, Global Developmental Delay and Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder.

Kylie graduated with a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy from the University of South Australia in 2017. She is a skilled Occupational Therapist specialising in mental health, with a substantial career working in SA Health’s Northern Adelaide Local Health Network (NALHN).

She is currently the UniSA Health Clinic Mental Health Occupational Therapist Clinical lead and Educator at the Elizabeth location.

Kylie possesses extensive expertise in mental health, adeptly serving diverse age groups and environments such as youth, adult, inpatient, forensic settings, and community outreach. Her proficiency extends to managing complex cases involving mental health issues compounded by psychosocial, medical, environmental, cognitive, and functional challenges.

Throughout her career, Kylie has collaborated closely with various service providers including NDIS, aged care facilities, SACAT, community services, and multidisciplinary teams. She currently holds clinical leadership positions at both Uni SA health clinic Elizabeth and SA Health, contributing notably to SA Health’s initiative recognized with an award for integrated services in Youth Mental Health in 2023.

Kylie excels in conducting a wide array of occupational therapy and mental health assessments, encompassing functional assessments, Model of Human Occupation-based evaluations, cognitive assessments (Allen’s Cognitive Levels Screen, PRPP), sensory profile evaluations, biopsychosocial assessments, mental state examinations, and risk assessments.

Kylie is skilled in delivering therapeutic interventions such as psychosocial rehabilitation, Adaptive Mentalization Based Integration Treatment (AMBIT), behavioural activation, activity analysis, sensory modulation, and comprehensive service coordination.
Beyond her professional achievements, Kylie is deeply passionate about occupational therapy, valuing the relationships she builds with individuals. She advocates for person-centred care, collaborating closely with clients, their families, and communities to facilitate meaningful and fulfilling lives.

Darcy O'Neil

Darcy graduated from the University of South Australia in 2015 with a Bachelor of Applied Science (Occupational Therapy). Discovering a passion for Hand Therapy in his final year university placement, Darcy has been working across public and private Hand Therapy settings since. He went on to deepen his knowledge of the human body, completing a Master of Physiotherapy at the Flinders University in 2019. Darcy is an associate member of the Australian Hand Therapy Association.

Darcy brings with him experience working with individuals in a range of different health sectors, incorporating musculoskeletal, neurological and rehabilitation care. Using his diverse background, Darcy provides a well-rounded and informative expertise to upper limb assessment and treatment.

Darcy is extremely passionate about completing medical voluntary work in Bhutan. In his spare time, you’ll find Darcy on the golf course.

Having worked in health, education, disability, early intervention and private practice; Susan is an experienced clinician who enjoys working with children who have communication difficulties. Her areas of expertise are speech, language & literacy.

Working with families and caregivers and other health professionals is an integral part of her work.

She is a registered certified practitioner with Speech Pathology

Australia holding degrees in Speech Pathology and Special Education.  Susan is also a clinical educator of speech pathology students studying at UniSA which she finds very rewarding.

When not working, Susan enjoys anything creative, traveling, gardening, cooking, being outdoors, and dance including classical ballet to keep fit.

Kate Walker is the Speech Pathologist on our team who specialises in delivering this program.
Kate (she/they) is the founder of affirm & thrive . She is a Certified Praciticing Speech Pathologist, Naturopath, Sound Therapist and LGBTQIA+ Advocate.
Her background in music theatre led her down the path of Speech Pathology and she has now been working in the field for over 14 years. Kate has had a diverse career working in voice, swallowing, and upper airway disorders in acute, rehabilitation and community settings. Their love of voice and passion for LGBTQIA+ advocacy made working in the gender-affirming space a natural progression.

In 2020, alongside Northside Health NT and with the support of the La Trobe Voice and Communication Clinic, they set up the first Gender Voice Clinic in Darwin after seeing a big gap in services. She has also worked with the Gender Voice Centre providing online services to transgender and non-binary folk.

As a qualified Naturopath Kate brings a holistic approach to all that she does. She believes that a healthy body requires a healthy community to live in – and sees her role as tending to both the individual and the collective. Kate takes a neuro-affirming approach and aims to provide a safe and welcoming environment for neurodivergent people.
Kate’s vision for affirm & thrive is to provide the space for LGBTQIA+ folk to thrive in body, mind and spirit.
