Clinical Exercise Physiology

Our Exercise Physiology clinic provides specialist exercise prescription and delivery services to treat and manage a wide variety of chronic and complex health presentations, including injuries, disabilities and mental health conditions.

Exercise physiology services are provided by third and/or fourth year undergraduate exercise physiology students under the supervision of Accredited Exercise Physiologists (AEPs).

Our services are beneficial for the management and/or treatment of:

  • cardiovascular disease/dysfunction
  • chronic fatigue pathologies
  • hormonal dysfunction
  • metabolic disease/dysfunction
  • musculoskeletal disease/dysfunction
  • neurological, psychological and respiratory diseases
  • cancer or post-cancer treatment
  • mental health conditions.

We offer practical, evidence-based exercise advice and programs that will equip you with the skills to maintain appropriate exercise habits, long term.

Changes to everyday behaviour including the addition/modification of physical activity habits are not easily achieved. Our staff recognise this and will assist by helping to identify and work around any barriers to achieve your specific health goals.

Our service is tailored to suit your individual needs and preferences and is designed to be performed by you from home or within an exercise training facility.

Initial Individual Consultation

All new clients will undergo a comprehensive initial consultation where we learn more about your medical history, medications, your physical activity/exercise history and preferences, goals, and any barriers that you might face in managing your health and your physical activity or exercise program, and work with you to develop a plan that will work for you.

Exercise or Functional Testing

Following your assessment, we may undertake a range of exercise or functional testing to provide you with baseline data and to inform your exercise prescription.

Individualised exercise sessions

If you have difficulty with managing your exercise program independently, or you require some support to get established with your program, you may undertake an individual session with a student exercise physiologist. We can work with you until you are comfortable and able to transition to self-management of your program or to supervised group exercise classes.

Supervised group exercise classes

Once clients can self-manage their prescribed exercises, they may transition from individual consultations to a group class environment, supervised by student Exercise Physiologists.

Telehealth

We can offer appointments via telehealth if you are not able to attend the EP Clinic in person. Please enquire about this when making your initial consultation.

Please wear comfortable, non-restrictive clothing and suitable footwear to your appointment, and bring any relevant medical information with you such as specialist or x-ray reports (not films).
