Psychology Services

Based at the Elizabeth Clinic, the Psychology service provides high-quality, affordable psychological assessment and therapy to the general community.

Psychology services are provided by provisional psychologists (postgraduate clinical psychology students) under the supervision of fully-qualified clinical psychologists.

In addition to our face-to-face services, we can also facilitate e-therapy or telepsychology sessions for clients who prefer not to attend a face-to-face appointment or are located in rural and remote areas of South Australia.

We offer up to 20 individual sessions for adult therapy clients and up to 20 sessions for child therapy clients (this is a combination of parent-only and joint parent-child sessions).

See our full list of services below.

Appointments are essential

Please note that sessions are video recorded for supervision purposes. Recordings are securely stored and only viewed by the treating provisional psychologist and their supervisor and deleted once checked (i.e., they are not shown in classes). Cameras and microphones are discreetly positioned in the ceilings so they are not visually or physically intrusive.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you provide Autism assessments?
Not currently.

Do you provide ADHD assessments?
We will be offering in this in the very near future. Please proceed with providing a referral or contacting the clinic to be added to a waitlist for these assessments. Once they become available we will be in contact.

From what age do you provide therapy services to children?
We can offer psychology services to children of all ages. For children under 8 years of age, sessions will likely involve working closely with the parent/s or guardian and some sessions will involve the parent/guardian staying in the therapy room.

Please note that all initial appointments for children under the age of 14 will be attended by the parent/s or guardian without the child. This allows parents and guardians to openly discuss their concerns and share any sensitive information with the provisional psychologist, without the child present.

Can I work with the same provisional psychologist each time?
We aim to provide continuity of care wherever possible; however, provisional psychologists typically have 5-month placements. Depending on when you start within a psychologist’s placement, you may have the same psychologist throughout your episode of care or be transferred to another one.

Can I choose the gender of my therapist?
We will endeavour to allocate your case to a provisional psychologist of your preferred gender where available; however, this will vary depending on psychologist availability.

How much experience will my provisional psychologist have?
The student working with you will have undertaken a four-year undergraduate Honours degree in psychology and begun or completed their first year of postgraduate study in clinical psychology. They will have undertaken a placement at the UniSA Psychology Clinic at Magill where they will have had experience independently providing psychological assessment and therapy, under supervision. Student experience with your, (or your child’s) specific issue will vary. All provisional psychologists at the clinic practise under the supervision of a fully qualified clinical psychologist.
